The spare parts needed for the repairs of any hydraulic system run a long list and include the following:

pumps (which require their own spares), pistons, seals, caps, valves, valve plates, pins, o-rings, piston seals, mounts, rod seal, filters, washers, nuts, piston rods.

A hydraulic system consists of a number of parts, all aligned to harness the power behind pressurised fluid.

Cylinder

The hydraulic cylinder, often referred to as the hydraulic motor. It is the actuator that provides force through a stroke in a single direction.

The cylinder itself is made up of a number of individual parts:

Cylinder barrel

The cylinder barrel is the main body of the cylinder and its purpose is to contain the pressure that is created through the introduction of hydraulic fluid as it enters the cylinder with aim of moving the piston.

Cylinder base

This is one of the ends of the the cylinder and it caps the cylinder allowing the pressure to remain within the cylinder rather than dissipating out the other end.

Cylinder head

Where the hydraulic fluid is introduced to the cylinder. The head is connected to the body and contains a seal which prevents hydraulic fluid from leaking backwards thus lessening the amount of pressure within the cylinder.

Piston

Pressure from hydraulic fluid on one side of the piston will cause the piston rod to extend, and pressure on the other side will cause the piston rod to retract, and so perpetuate the desired action of the equipment.

Piston rod

The piston rod is connected to the machine which is completing the task and as the plate is pressed from either side within the cylinder the rod will either retract or extend accordingly.

Seals

The seals are present at the point of entry to the cylinder to enforce singular direction in the flow of hydraulic fluid and to prevent the leakage of hydraulic fluid during operation. Seals are made of material that is capable of withstanding the pressure within the cylinder and any friction caused by movement during operation.
